    New England

Autumn

This fall I held a 2-Day Workshop in Acadia National Park. We had about 16 folks with us for those two days.  Each morning and each evening we would head out to shoot along Ocean Drive and a few other spots.  The weather gave us an interesting mix with an opportunity for some great shooting.

I shot this image on our last day of the workshop.  I've been shooting and doing tours here since the early 90s and it still continues to inspire me.

This image was taken a day earlier.  The waves from the overnight rainstorm were still evident.  I love photographing during or just after a storm.

I never tire of this place as each day will invariably be different!

The Gate House near Northwest Harbor.  You can do some great shooting in the fall on Mt Dessert Island.  This gate house near the carriage roads in the park system is surrounded with beautiful maple trees.  While I am by know means an architectural photographer, it is still a fun place to work the many shapes and angles of this old gate house.

There is a large parking lot just past the gatehouse allowing our large group a place to park and to photograph at this location.

This a wide view of the gate house taken with my 12-24 Nikkor.  As I always tell my students; Where there is two shots, there's bound to be one!"

Yes I know what I just said!

Red Fox Pups
Near Baxter SP Maine

Just before school started in September, I took my son Jesse up to Baxter State Park for a few days.  We happened upon these two Red Fox Pups who seemed more than willing to let me take a few shots.

Springtime

Springtime was especially rewarding this year as well.  I love spending time in the White Mountain National Forest where waterfalls are abundant and the streams are running full.

Welcome to the Recent Trips page where you can see some of my past trips though the eye of a camera.  Most images on this page were taken with the Nikon D200 and the 18-200VR Lens, or the 12-24 Nikkor.  My children used Nikon CoolPixs cameras.

New England is my back yard photographically speaking.  I believe you'll find all the photographic opportunities anyone could ever ask for.

There are so many beautiful places in this world to photograph, but as far as I'm concerned, you would be hard pressed to find any place more inviting than New England.  Enjoy the images on this page.

As usual, we started our spring visit in New Hampshire.  Our primary focus was water.  The White Mountain NF, has an abundance of waterfalls.  The ever-changing weather, in this case, occasional showers, provided us with the rich colors.

While I have never considered myself a black and white photographer, Adobe's Lightroom allows me to experiment a bit.

The abundance of waterfalls in this area gives a photographer plenty of subjects to work with.

Above the Sentinel Pine Bridge
Franconia Notch State Park, New Hampshire

A pleasant hike back along the Pemigewasset River brought us to a  covered bridge.  I took this shot from the bridge looking up-stream.  Again thanks to all the rain we had during this tour, every color just popped!

I like the balance of the green foliage as it cradles the falling water.

I've come up with a few ways to mount an umbrella and bracket on my tripod, allowing me to do a lot of shooting in the rain.  So often, we give up and head for the comfort of our hotel, only to miss some of our best photography.
